Movie Time

Homework:
Pages 62 and 63 in the vocab.  I told the kids that they MUST have pages 61 and 62 perfect.  I will score them using the responders as a homework check.

Today:
We have started watching the two Red Chief movies.  Today we watched the 1952 version.  The kids liked it.  It has some really funny lines.  The movie is similar to the story, but there are many differences.  Here is what I had the kids think about today:

Literature
Think critically about a movie adaptation of a story.
What was changed?
What was kept true to the story?
How do the director’s choices affect your enjoyment of the story?

Here is the Common Core standard that asks students to analyze and evaluate a movie version of a story.

CC.8.R.L.7 Integration of Knowledge and Ideas: Analyze the extent to which a filmed or live production of a story or drama stays faithful to or departs from the text or script, evaluating the choices made by the director or actors.

I am going to offer students two choices for their written piece.

1. Write the formal response to literature they started for the rough draft.  I collected those today.

2. The other option is to write a compare contrast essay discussing which version of the story the student liked best: the written, the 1952 version, or the 1998 version.

I will provide the students with time to organize and write the piece.  Hopefully they will have it written by the Thanksgiving break.
